Keeping your carpet fresh is one task that many carpet owners have a problem with. A carpet can become filthy quickly because of many cleaning problems that it has to face everyday. From pets, dust, dirt, mud, and a lot more different sources, keeping the carpet’s freshness can become quite a chore. If this is the kind of problem that you are having, don’t worry as I have listed down some useful tips that can make and keep your carpet clean and fresh.

  • Use non-bleach laundry detergent to freshen up your carpet. You can make a cleaning solution by mixing one part of your everyday non-bleach laundry detergent with four parts of water. Place this inside a spray bottle and apply it onto your carpet. Then, use a wet/dry vac to suck the solution from your carpet and continue by rinsing the carpet with water and then drying using clean rags or towels. The laundry detergent will help remove the dust and dirt as well as any unpleasant odors on your carpet. Just remember to use non-bleach detergent though as bleach can cause discoloration or damage to some carpet types.
  • Frequently vacuuming your carpet can also be key in keeping its freshness. Being able to eliminate the dust, dirt, bacteria, fungi, and other unwanted cleaning problems on your carpet can be a big help to keeping it looking and smelling fresh for a long time. Vacuuming three to five times a week would be best for areas with a lot of foot traffic while twice a week would be advisable for other areas of your home. A trick that you could do is to sprinkle some baking soda onto the carpet before starting to vacuum it. The baking soda will absorb any unpleasant smell and get it out of your carpet as you vacuum it.
  • Steam cleaning is another way to ensure that you carpet remains fresh. It is a method which uses hot water at high temperatures to remove the dust and dirt in the carpet’s fibers. This method is effective in keeping your carpet fresh as it can reach even deep seated dirt which ordinary cleaning can’t remove. It also works great in removing unpleasant odor as the high temperature water can kill any bacteria, fungi, or germs which may be the source of the smell on your carpet.

Keeping your carpet fresh is important so that you can fully enjoy it. Check out the three tips above and you’ll no doubt have a clean and fresh carpet in a jiffy.
