Nothing beats a hot bowl of soup when you are feeling a little bit under the weather or during those cold winter nights. At times though, spills can occur that leave you facing a soup spill on your carpet. This is a frustrating situation as food spills and the resulting stains are a constant cause of headaches for carpet owners.

Cleaning up soup spills is not that hard as long as you follow the right procedures. Even if you are not that experienced with cleaning carpet you can still properly clean up the mess that spills can cause. To help you out, here are some helpful tips to guide you in cleaning soup spills and soup stains from your carpet.

  • Remove Excess Soup and Loose Food Particles – Before you begin cleaning the soup stain, you first need to deal with the excess liquid and food particles that are now on your carpet. Get a clean sponge or towel and blot the area where the soup was spilled to absorb any excess liquid. Make sure to just blot at the area and not rub it. Repeat this a few times until you have removed as much of the excess as you can. Then, using your fingers try to remove any loose food particles until all you have left is the soup stain on your carpet.
  • Apply Some Cleaning Product to the Area – Now that you have it down to just the soup stain, grab a cleaning agent to apply onto the soiled area. You can go with your regular carpet cleaning products, which can be bought in stores, or you can create a cleaning solution of your own using a teaspoon of non-bleach household detergent and a cup of water. Apply a few sprays of the cleaning agent you have chosen onto the stained area and leave it for two to three minutes. Then, proceed to the next step.
  • Cover the Stained Area with a Clean Cloth – For the next step, get a clean cloth and cover the stained area with it. Next, get a heavy object, such as a book, and put it on top of the cloth. Leave it for an hour or so and then remove it and you’ll notice that the stain will be gone. If it is still there, proceed with applying the cleaning product again and blot the stained area until it is totally removed.
  • Rinse the Area – After getting rid of the stain, get some clean water and rinse the area where the stain used to be. This will remove any cleaning product residue that may be left behind.

Dealing with soup spills and stains is actually very simple. Using the following steps, you can get rid of that nasty soup stain and return your carpet to its clean and beautiful self once more.
